Abstract

Video-assisted pulmonary resection is gaining popularity, as minimally invasive surgery is beneficial in terms of reduced postoperative pain, shorter duration of hospital stay, faster recovery, and better compliance with adjuvant chemotherapy. With the improvement in surgical approaches, uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (UP-VATS) enables rapid patient recovery. We report the case of a 66-year-old male patient with left upper peripheral lung cancer who underwent unidirectional progressive resection of left upper pulmonary lobe and systematic mediastinal lymph node dissection via UP-VATS. A single 2.5-cm incision for access was made in the 5th intercostal space near the mid-axillary line. Postoperative chest tube drainage and hospital stay durations were 1 and 4 days, respectively.
